ALF Music – Instrument Rentals 2025-2026
Music Classes
ALF no longer offers instrumental music classes. Check with your student’s school for information about LCUSD instrumental music classes.
Instrument Rental
Instruments are available to rent from Action League of the Foothills from Wednesday, August 27, 2025 until the end of the Spring Concert in May 2026. Rental fees are paid during the Instrument Rental registration period. Instruments are picked up on Rental Day, this year on Wednesday, August 27 from 3:15-5:15 PM.

Eligibility
Students entering grades 4-6 and participating in the LCUSD/Encore Instrumental Music program at LCE, PCR and PCY are welcome to participate in the ALF Music Instrument Rental program. Students in other programs are not eligible to rent at this time.
Instruments Available for Rent
- Brass – Baritone, French Horn, Trumpet, Trombone
- Woodwinds – Clarinet, Flute, Oboe, (Alto) Saxophone
- Strings – Violin, Viola, Cello
NOTE: Beginning students may not rent an Oboe or French Horn. Percussion rentals are not available at all.
Registration
All registration for Instrument Rentals is done through the ALF website. Registration will open on Friday, August 1 at 12:00 PM and close on Monday, August 25 at 5:00 PM, prior to Rental Day. Late registration will be at the discretion of the ALF Music Chairs and, if granted, may incur a Late Fee and special instructions on how to pick up instruments after Rental Day. Late registration is not guaranteed and depends on the availability of remaining instruments; Registration prior to Rental Day is highly encouraged.
After Registration
After the registration process is completed, you will receive an email confirming the rental for each student and how much was paid. If you have trouble registering or do not receive this email, please contact the Programs office at programs@alfoothills.org or 818-790-2211. After registering, you will have access to your online account through the link in your confirmation email. You may go to this account any time to review or correct your family information, print a statement, or change your password. To login, use the same email and password that was used during registration.
Transfers
We will revise the student’s choice of instrument up until registration closes on Monday, August 25 at 5:00 PM. After this date, instrument exchange is subject to availability and the Music Chairs’ approval. Contact programs@alfoothills.org or call 818-790-2211 to make this request.
Rental Agreement
ALF has a limited number of instruments for rent. Pre-payment for rental does not guarantee an instrument will be available for your student. If an appropriate instrument is not available, this Instrument Rental Fee will be refunded.
- The parent agrees to be responsible for any damage or loss of the instrument.
- The ALF Music Chair(s) must approve in advance any repair or replacement of an instrument.
- The parent agrees to return the instrument in the same condition as it was received.
- Upon pickup of the rented instrument and acceptance of the rental agreement, the parent agrees to the stated value and condition of the instrument. Instruments returned with damage will be evaluated and the renter’s family may be responsible for up to the full value of replacing the instrument.
- Instruments must be returned after the Spring Concert or immediately if the student is no longer in the program. Failure to return an instrument on this date may result in a $50 Late Return Fee.
- The parent is responsible for providing replacement incidentals (strings, rosin, reeds, oil, cork, grease, etc.)
Cost
$200 Rental Fee
Rental Fees are paid once during registration and are for the entire session, September to May. Instruments must be returned at the Spring Concert.
No Refunds
Action League of the Foothills has a NO REFUND policy unless the student was not able to obtain the instrument of their choice on Rental Day.
Scholarships
A limited number of rental scholarships are available to La Cañada Unified School District students based on need. For more information and/or application forms, please contact the principal of the LCUSD school your student is presently attending. All information will be held strictly confidential.
Parent Communication
ALF Music sends communications to parents via email or by calling the primary parent’s cell phone. Be sure to keep your contact information up-to-date and check your spam filter regularly for emails from active.com, music@alfoothills.org, programs@alfoothills.org, or contact@alfoothills.org.. Do not “unsubscribe” or you may not receive important notifications from ALF.
Instrument Returns
Students are expected to return their instruments immediately if they are no longer participating in the LCUSD/Encore Instrumental Music program. For all other students, instruments must be returned after the Spring Concert in May. Alternately, instruments can be returned directly to ALF, 4607 Oakwood Avenue, LCF during store hours. Ring the bell on the OFFICE door.
Summer rentals will only be offered to students enrolled in an ALF Summer School band class. Classes are offered for beginning and intermediate students and rental is paid during the registration process. For more information about ALF Summer School, go here.
